The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics was established in 2012, commenced its educational activities in the 2012–2013 academic year, and graduated its first cohort of students in 2016. The department initially started with 32 students and currently continues its educational activities with an average annual quota of 50 students.
The department comprises four divisions: Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Molecular Cell Biology. Educational and academic activities are carried out by a faculty consisting of 1 Professor, 3 Associate Professors, 2 Assistant Professors, and 3 Research Assistants. Some of our academic staff have completed their graduate education abroad (USA), which enhances the department’s international academic experience and vision.
Our department is equipped with 2 student laboratories and 5 research laboratories, providing both theoretical and practical training opportunities. With its strong infrastructure, knowledge base, and experience, the department aims to educate competitive, well-trained, and highly qualified graduates who can contribute to the continuously evolving, technology-driven world of the 21st century.
The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics aims to prepare undergraduate students for the future not only with professional knowledge but also with a strong research culture, ethical values, and intellectual development. In line with its mission and vision, the department strives to educate competent, ethical, hardworking, and productive graduates and scientists, while also contributing to increasing the national and international recognition of our university and enhancing its competitiveness at the global level.
The duration of the undergraduate program is 4 years (8 semesters), excluding the optional English preparatory year. In order to graduate, students are required to successfully complete a total of 240 ECTS credits within the undergraduate program. Additionally, students must complete a compulsory internship of 20 or 30 working days. Graduates who successfully complete the program are awarded a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics.
